The Joule Theif kit allows for the construction of a light/lamp/torch that uses an ultra bright white LED that is powered via a 1.5V battery, normally a 1.5V battery cannot light a white LED at least 3V is required!! However, using a bit of Physics courtesy of Michael Faraday all is possible - it looks like something for nothing, a bit of elec-trickery!

The kit can be extended with additional components to create a solar powered lamp/light that uses a supercapacitor to store the generated energy, a few components extra and a solar powered rechargeable lamp/light with automatic switch on/off is possible - ,all with the same board!
